Makgadikadi Pans, Botswana

The Makgadigadi pans cover 6200 sq km and is the remnant of a great lake which once covered most of Botswana and dried up thousands of years ago. The largest of the pans being the Sua (Sowa), Nwetwe and Naxi pans are the largest of their kind in the world, providing the traveller with a unique vast experience. The Makgadigadi Pans fill up once a year when the rain falls attracting a plethora of birdlife and wildlife.
