South Luangwa National Park covering over 9,000 sq km is one of the worlds greatest wildlife sanctuaries with intense concentrations of wildlife along the banks of the Luangwa River.

On arrival at our camp there are opportunities for various optional activities including village walks and walking safaris.

Day 4. South Luangwa National Park Highlights. South Luangwa National Park.

From the truck it's into the Open Game Drive vehicles with a local ranger in search of some of the animals and birdlife that the park is so famous for. During the heat of the day the pool in the camp makes for a perfect spot to relax.

There is the opportunity for additional game activities which can be arranged on arrival.

Day 5. South Luangwa National Park - Kande Beach

Out of the park today and back via Chipata to cross the border and into our next country on our safari, Malawi.

Malawi, The Warm Heart of Africa will welcome you with waves and smiles. This beautiful country is dominated by the lake which covers almost a fifth of the country's area and also provides a livleyhood to many of the Malawian people.

Home for the next couple of nights is on the lakeshore at Kande Beach.

Day 6. Kande Beach Highlights. Kande Beach Activities, Malawi. Lake Malawi, Malawi.

Top up the tan? Go horse riding? Take a village walk? Snorkel or Dive? The choice is yours! Today is free to enjoy some of the many activities on offer at Kande.

Day 7. Kande Beach - Chitimba

It's a leisurely drive today up towards the Northern lakeshore through rubber plantations and via the market town of Muzuzu to stock up on supplies before heading back down to the beach at the foot of the Livingstonia Plateau.

Day 8. Chitimba Beach Highlights. Livingstonia Day Hike, Malawi.

Feeling energetic? We have the opportunity to trek up to the Manchewe Falls in the hills surrounding Chitimba. The views are well worth it as is the chance to cool off in a natural bath at the top.

Alternatively, relax on the beach or head into the village for a game of Bao with the locals.

Day 9. Chitimba Beach to Iringa, Tanzania

Passports out again! Crossing the border at Songwe Bridge we climb steadily up through tea plantations into Tanzania's Southern Highlands.

The working farm that is home for the night is at an altitude of 1,600m so it has a pleasant climate and some fantastic produce.

Be sure to check out the chocolate brownies and a warming hot chocolate in the colder months.

Day 10. Iringa to Dar es Salaam Highlights. Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Mikumi National Park, Tanzania.

Our journey continues North Eastwards, dropping down off the southern highlands en route to Tanzania's hub, Dar es Salaam.

The route takes us through Mikumi National Park where we may be lucky enough to spot a variety of wild animals close to the road.

After working our way through the hustle and bustle of the city of Dar es Salaam we reach our camp, on the beach, next to the Indian Ocean.

Day 11. Zanzibar Highlights. Stone Town, Zanzibar, Tanzania. Zanzibar, Tanzania.

Leaving the truck and the mainland behind, mode of transport swaps today as we jump on the ferry across to the 'Spice Island' Zanzibar.

Our first night is spent in Stone Town which is best explored on foot exploring the bazaars and markets. Don't forget to sample some of the fantastic seafood.

Day 12 - 14. Zanzibar Highlights. Zanzibar, Northern Beaches, Tanzania. Zanzibar, Tanzania.

Kendwa is home to some of the white sandy sun kissed beaches that Zanzibar is famous for and this morning we transfer North from Stone Town to this resort.

Relax and take some of the optional activities that are available here or explore the surrounding area.

Day 15. Kendwa - Dar es Salaam Highlights. Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Catch that last swim or bag a bargain in the market before catching the ferry back to Dar es Salaam and on to the beach fronted camp site.

Day 16. Dar es Salaam - Marangu Highlights. Marangu, Moshi Area, Tanzania.

We're up early this morning, putting the city behind us it's on inland and northwards. Our journey takes us past the Usambara and Pare Mountains through sisal plantations.

Our camp for the night is close to the base of the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro and if the weather is clear we might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of it's snow capped peak.

Day 17. Marangu - Arusha Highlights. Maasai Village Walk, Arusha, Tanzania. Meserani Snake Park, Tanzania.

It's only a short drive today through the town of Moshi and onwards to Arusha.

Arusha is Safari Town and mid way between Cape Town and Cairo. After a short break to explore the town and stock up on provisions we continue a short distance out of town to our camp for the night on the edge of the Maasai plains. Here we visit a local school, village, Maasai museum and snake park making for a fascinating afternoon.

Day 18. Arusha to Serengeti National Park Highlights. Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.

We're off the truck again and onto specialised 4x4 safari vehicles with local guides for the next 3 days. Passing west across the Great Rift Valley we stop for lunch on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater before descending into the seemingly endless plains of the Serengeti.

This is the land of the 'Lion King' and we enjoy game drives to our designated camp for the night.

Day 19. Serengeti National Park to Ngrongoro Crater

We're up early this morning for a game drive in search of the 'Big 5' (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo) and you are sure to be rewarded with some amazing animal sightings.

Our day continues with more game driving before heading up to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. Our camp for the evening is perched on the crater rim and at over 2,400m it provides stunning vistas across the crater some 600m below.

Day 20. Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha Highlights. Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania.

Wrapped up against the cool of the morning we descend to the floor of the crater and game drive in this animal paradise. The only major mammal you won't see is the giraffe as the steep crater walls keep them out.

Reluctantly this afternoon its time to retrace our steps back to our camp outside Arusha for the final night of the tour.

Day 21. Arusha to Nairobi, Kenya

Passports for the final time on the tour! Our route this morning takes us through Arusha and onwards to the border town of Namanga where we complete the last crossing of the tour and onwards to Kenya's capital Nairobi where we bid farewell to our fellow travellers and crew.
