Day 1. Nairobi to Nakuru Highlights. Lake Nakuru, Kenya. Accommodation. Punda Millias.

Leaving Kenya's bustling capital, Nairobi our journey takes us down across the Great Rift Valley and onwards to one of the most famous of its lakes, Lake Nakuru.

We enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park exploring the area around the fringe of the lake as well as in the hills hoping to spot some of the wildlife native to the park.

Day 2. Lake Nakuru to Eldoret Highlights. Equator. Accommodation. Naiberi Camp.

From Lake Nakuru we journey northwestwards gaining altitude en route to the town of Eldoret situated in the highlands close to the border with Uganda. Along the way we cross the equator for the first time on the tour.

Our comfortable accommodation is just out of town on hilly tribal land.

Day 3. Eldoret to Kampala Highlights. Kampala, Uganda. Accommodation. Red Chilli Hideaway, Kampala.

From Kenya into Uganda this morning with the first border crossing of the safari. Once formalities are completed and we are welcomed into what Winston Churchill referred to as 'The Pearl of Africa' our journey takes us onwards to the city of Kampala and our accommodation in the hills for the night.

Day 4. Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park Highlights. Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda. Accommodation. Simba Camp, Uganda.

We cross the equator again this morning as we head down from Kampala travelling South West around the shores of Lake Victoria. Travelling through the lush fertile landscape we journey through banana plantations and herds of cattle before arriving at our camp outside the Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 5. Queen Elizabeth National Park, Chimpanzee Trek Highlights. Chimpanzee Trek, Kyamburu Gorge, Uganda. Accommodation. Simba Camp, Uganda.

Entering the park itself this morning we may be lucky enough to spot some wildlife near the road as we journey to the Kyambura Gorge where we start our trek to see the Chimpanzees.

The chimps are normally found in the tree tops so our trek through the forest is normally spent looking up to find them however they do regularly come down to the forest floor.

Day 6. Queen Elizabeth National Park to Lake Bunyonyi Highlights. Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda. Accommodation. Lake Bunyonyi Camp.

We leave the area around the National Park this morning and continue on towards the South West corner of Uganda and the 27km long Lake Bunyonyi which will be home for the next few days while we venture into the nearby jungles in search of the mountain gorilla.

Day 7-8. Lake Bunyonyi, Gorilla Trek Highlights. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda. Mountain gorillas. Accommodation. Lake Bunyonyi Camp.

We will be up early to head to the park gate and then onwards with our guides and trackers in search of the mountain gorillas. Our guides will know where the families have been the previous night but the trek can still be long and arduous through thick jungle but the effort is well worth it when we are rewarded with an audience with the mighty animals.

Permits to visit the mountain gorillas are strictly controlled and limited and as such, we generally require a couple of days for the whole group to complete their trek. While not trekking Lake Bunyonyi is a a beautiful tranquil spot to relax or partake in the many optional activities around the local area.

Day 9. Lake Bunyonyi to Kampala Accommodation. Red Chilli Hideaway, Kampala.

Once we have all trekked then we are up early and back onto the truck for the journey back through to Kampala.

Again, we cross the equator today before arriving late this afternoon in the hilly city of Kampala close to the shores of Lake Victoria.

Day 10. Kampala to Jinja Accommodation. Nile River Explorer.

It's only a short distance today from the city to the shores of Lake Victoria on the banks of the mighty Nile River as it starts its journey north.

Jinja is home to many different optional activities and it is possible to raft on the white waters of the nile or visit a local charity run school and help out to really make a difference.

Day 11-12. Jinja Highlights. Jinja, Uganda. Accommodation. Nile River Explorer.

We have a two free days here to relax and enjoy as much or as little as possible. Maybe it's time to just rest the weary feet after trekking to the mountain gorillas? Or possibly take part in an activity or three?

Day 13. Jinja to Eldoret, Kenya Accommodation. Naiberi Camp.

Crossing back into Kenya today we return to our camp outside the town of Eldoret for our last night on safari.

Day 14. Eldoret to Nairobi

From Nairobi we cross the Equator one final time on Safari and then its on through the Rift Valley and into the captial city, Nairobi where our adventure ends.

Additional Info

PRE TOUR ACCOMMODATION:
This tour departs Nairobi early on day 1; we strongly recommend therefore that you plan to arrive at least the day before departure to overcome any jet-lag and to acclimatise to Africa. We would be happy to book pre-tour accommodation for you – please call or email us (or speak to your agent) with your arrival details and accommodation requirements. However please book early to avoid disappointment and the risk of having to find more expensive (or less convenient) lodgings.

If time allows, we also suggest planning a night or two extra (after your tour) to make the most of this part of Africa. Your Tour Leader can help with post tour accommodation if required and there are a variety of activities and excursions in the Nairobi Area that you can arrange locally. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can pre book your accommodation at the time of booking your tour.

ACTIVITIES & EXCURSIONS:
These are optional activities that are booked during your holiday and paid directly to the provider while on tour. These options offer a variety of experiences and allow you the freedom to decide what activities you would like to do.

GORILLA & CHIMPANZEE TREK:
Depending on the availability of the chimpanzee and gorilla permits the tour itinerary may vary in day to day running order which is based on the brochure itinerary. From time to time we may have to trek on different days. If at any chance our Gorilla trek should be in another neighbouring country, e.g. Rwanda (instead of Uganda) this may entail extra visa fees although we shall endeavour to advise you before departure of any significant changes to the tour itinerary. Please take the above itinerary as a guideline only. This applies to day 7 – 9 of this tour.

ACCOMMODATION:
Twin share accommodation with facilities (13 nights) twin share tents with sleeping bag, pillow and mattress (0 nights) some may be with bar or swimming pool.

TRANSPORT:
24-seater, self-contained, custom-built safari truck with on-board tables, plug sockets, freezer, water tank, library, i-pod jack, safety features and 70-litre individual lockers, 4x4 safari vehicle.

GAME PARK VISITS:
In order to maximise the quality of game driving and to comply with local authority rulings, some of our National Park visits and game viewing is carried out using services provided by local African ground handlers. As well as enhancing our experience using local guides and smaller vehicles it also allows us to contribute at a ‘grassroots’ level to local economies from which local people benefit.

TOUR STYLE:
This is a participation tour and your help will be needed in assisting with the various day to day duties, such as shopping, cooking and keeping the truck tidy (usually on a rota basis). But don’t worry it’s not all hard work and it’s a great way to meet the local people and get to know your fellow travellers. Your contribution benefits the success of the tour - most people find the greater their involvement, the greater their enjoyment of the whole trip.
