Day 1. Nairobi to Maasai Mara Highlights. Great Rift Valley.

Meeting our group we board the local safari vehicles and head out of busy Nairobi on our adventure. We stop off at the Rift Valley viewpoint to learn about how the African continent is splitting and then descend across the valley to Narok and the Maasai Mara.

Day 2. Maasai Mara National Reserve Highlights. Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya.

Experience the Mara’s amazing grasslands, extensive horizons and abundance in wildlife in small specialized safari vehicles. The annual migration of the wildebeest and zebra are a sight not to be missed from July to October but don't be disheartened when travelling in the rest of the year as there are plenty resident herds and predators to seek out an enjoy.

Day 3. Maasai Mara to Nairobi

We make our way back across the open wildlife buffer zone and up the Rift Valley escarpment to Nairobi where we spend the night.

Enjoy a night out at one of the local restaurants or chilling at camp.

Day 4. Nairobi to Arusha, Tanzania Highlights. Maasai Village Walk, Arusha, Tanzania. Meserani Snake Park, Tanzania.

Crossing the border to neighbouring Tanzania, we head to the safari capital Arusha and on to our camp at Meserani.

Enjoy a locally guided walk to a Masai Village. Gain some first-hand knowledge of these interesting people, their culture and history at the Masai museum. There is also the reptile park to explore and learn about the snakes and other reptiles found here.

Day 5. Arusha to the Serengeti National Park Highlights. Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.

With Mount Meru at our backs, we journey across the Tanzanian countryside to the Serengeti National Park. A Unesco World Heritage Site and home to a myriad of fragile wildlife habitats and ecosystems, the Serengeti draws many visitors year on year to witness its abundant wildlife and the migration of the herds.

We spend the night in an unfenced camp in the Serengeti where lion and hyena may roam nearby.

Day 6. Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

Rising with the sun we head out again to explore the surrounds and seek out the animals we've not yet had the chance to see.

After packing up, we head on to the Ngorongoro Crater rim where we will spend the night.

Experience spectacular views from the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater at 2400 metres above sea level.

Day 7. Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha Highlights. Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania.

The early bird catches the worm, and we're up early again to get the most out of our game viewing in the Crater this morning. After breakfast, we head down the steep walls and into the open caldera to explore!

After our wildlife encounters, we head back to camp and continue back to Arusha where our overland truck welcomes us back at camp.

Day 8. Arusha to Bagamoyo Highlights. Bagamoyo, Tanzania.

This morning's journey takes us by the base of the great Kilimanjaro and as we make our way into the distance we hope to catch a glimpse of the peak later today. We head for the coast and the historic town of Bagamoyo.

Late in the 19th century Bagamoyo was one of the most important trading ports of the east central coast of Africa, trading in ivory and the slave trade. Visit with the locals and learn more about the towns history.

Day 9. Bagamoyo to Dar es Salaam Highlights. Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Dar Es Salaam with its mix of African, Muslim, South Asian influences, beach, chaotic markets and historical buildings has become one of East Africa’s most important ports and trading centres. A definite must see before heading to Zanzibar.

We spend the night at our camp on the beach with the warm ocean lapping the shore.

Day 10. Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar Highlights. Stone Town, Zanzibar, Tanzania. Zanzibar, Tanzania.

We cross from Dar es Salaam to Stone Town on Zanzibar using the fast ferry service and continue to our lodge in the city.

From here it's easy to explore Zanzibar's Capital with its winding walkways, interesting architecture and varied shops and markets. Enjoy a fresh fruity cocktail and delicious seafood delicacies during your stay - you won't get it any fresher elsewhere!

Day 11-12. Zanzibar Highlights. Zanzibar, Northern Beaches, Tanzania.

Time on Zanzibar is spent at leisure to allow everyone to explore their own interests on their own time. The group generally spends one night in Stone Town, and then heads up to the beaches in the north of the Island where activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling and boat trips are available.

Enjoy a couple of days relaxing on the pretty beaches and swimming in the warm Indian Ocean or get busy with exploring the colourful reefs and under water world here.

Day 13. Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam

Shop for some last minute souvenirs this morning or enjoy a final swim before heading back to Tanzania’s main port city, Dar Es Salaam and the end of your African adventure.

Additional Info

PRE TOUR ACCOMMODATION:
This tour departs Nairobi early on day 1; we strongly recommend therefore that you plan to arrive the day before departure to overcome any jet-lag and to acclimatise to Africa. We would be happy to book pre-tour accommodation for you – please call or email us (or speak to your agent) with your arrival details and accommodation requirements. However please book early to avoid disappointment and the risk of having to find more expensive (or less convenient) lodgings.

If time allows, we also suggest planning a night or two extra (after your tour) to make the most of this part of Africa. Accommodation is usually available locally on arrival but you can pre-book this with Acacia or your agent. There are a variety of activities and excursions in Zanzibar/ Dar es Salaam area that can be arranged locally.

ACTIVITIES & EXCURSIONS:
These are optional activities that are paid directly to the provider while on tour and you are free to decide what activities you would like to do. Please see table below for prices.

ACCOMMODATION:
We use 2-person dome tents with fly sheets, sewn-in ground sheets, zip-up insect screens and foam mattresses. We mainly use campsites, which usually have reasonable wash and shower facilities, electricity points and sometimes even a small shop, bar or swimming pool. On Zanzibar we use basic tourist class local hotels.

TRANSPORT:
24-seater, self-contained, custom-built safari truck with onboard tables, plug sockets, freezer, water tank, library, i-pod jack, safety features and 70-litre individual lockers, pop top minivan, 4x4 safari vehicle and fast ferry.

GAME PARK VISITS:
In order to maximise the quality of game driving and to comply with local authority rulings, some of our National Park visits and game viewing is carried out using services provided by local African ground handlers. As well as enhancing our experience using local guides and smaller vehicles it also allows us to contribute at a ‘grassroots’ level to local economies from which local people benefit.

TOUR STYLE:
This is a participation tour and your help will be needed in assisting with the various day to day duties, such as shopping, cooking and keeping the truck tidy (usually on a rota basis). But don’t worry it’s not all hard work and it’s a great way to meet the local people and get to know your fellow travellers. Your contribution benefits the success of the tour - most people find the greater their involvement, the greater their enjoyment of the whole trip.
