{"id":1831,"date":"2013-08-06T08:00:48","date_gmt":"2013-08-06T06:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"\/blog\/?p=1831"},"modified":"2013-08-06T08:00:48","modified_gmt":"2013-08-06T06:00:48","slug":"nata-a-little-known-safari-haunt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/acacia-africa.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/06\/nata-a-little-known-safari-haunt\/","title":{"rendered":"Nata \u2013 A Little Known Safari Haunt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nata might be a remote haven in northeast Botswana, and perhaps less worthy of a mention when compared to the likes of Chobe National Park or the Okavango Delta, but it\u2019s amazing what rare wonders you find when you head off the beaten track.<\/p>\n<p>Being poled down the waterways in the delta has to be in my top three when it comes to sensational safaris, however, when the country bears the title of, \u201cGem of Africa\u201d it would seem as though hidden treasures ought to pop up as a matter of course.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1774\" style=\"width: 458px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"\/blog\/?attachment_id=1774\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1774\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1774\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1774\" alt=\"Image by: Michelle Lewis\" src=\"https:\/\/acacia-africa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/100_0055.jpg\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1774\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image by: Michelle Lewis<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Within this small town lies a 16,000-hectare unfenced wilderness that is stuffed to the savannah with endless helpings of one of the big five, namely elephants. More than 95,000, both resident and migratory make their home in this location, and you don\u2019t need to be on a game drive to capture their playful antics. The waterhole surrounding the pool and nearby campsite, is a genuine social haunt for these mammals, the herds spied from just a few metres away.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1832\" style=\"width: 458px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"\/blog\/?attachment_id=1832\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1832\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1832\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1832\" alt=\"Image by: Michelle Lewis\" src=\"https:\/\/acacia-africa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/100_0596.jpg\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1832\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image by: Michelle Lewis<\/p><\/div>\n<p>While camp game viewing isn\u2019t round the clock as it would be at Etosha National Park (the Namibian park boasting floodlit waterholes), you can still expect to enjoy sightings until around 10pm when the generator runs out of steam. Then again, on the plus side, being truly wild, it still has that raw backpacker status, these open plains coming under the category of relatively obscure.<\/p>\n<p>When I last visited with my group there must have been near on a hundred elephant sightings in one-day, the wild dog, kudu and leopard also putting in an appearance. There\u2019s nothing like ending the day round a roaring fire or contemplating the day\u2019s next adventure over a cold beer while elephants meandour by (on the hoof) \u2013 or perhaps one of the many reasons why they always catch us unawares, on tiptoe!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/blog\/?attachment_id=1834\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1834\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1834\" alt=\"elephant sands\" src=\"https:\/\/acacia-africa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/elephant-sands.jpg\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>An essential dose of elephant viewing is available on our <a title=\"Kruger &amp; Victoria Falls -
