Day 1. Windhoek to Etosha National Park Highlights. Etosha National Park, Namibia.

Travelling north from Windhoek, Namibia's capital city, we reach the vast 20,000 sq km reserve that is Etosha National Park. The park is dominated by the central salt pan and there are camps at various waterholes.

We set up camp at one of these waterholes - which is floodlit at night and will enable us see some of the nocturnal animals coming to drink

Day 2. Etosha National Park Highlights. Etosha National Park, Namibia.

This morning we are up early to enjoy a full day game driving in this magnificent park. Keep your eyes peeled for the resident wildlife around the watering holes and on the pan. Home to Lion, leopard, rhino, giraffe and numerous species of antelope and birds, this national park is one of the best places to view wildlife.

In the late afternoon, we return to camp for a swim in the pools and enjoy an evening around the floodlit watering hole to view wildlife at it's best.

Day 3. Etosha National Park to Spitzkoppe Highlights. Spitzkoppe, Namibia.

Game driving out of the park, we start heading south through Damaraland towards the giant boulder-like rock formations that make up Spitzkoppe.

Our community-run camp is at the base of the mountain and provides us with a fantastic base to explore the rocks and take in the changing colours as the sun drops below the horizon.

Day 4. Spitzkoppe to Swakopmund

Onward towards the coast, we will feel the noticeably cooler ocean breezes coming off the cold South Atlantic.

Our home for the next two nights is the town of Swakopmund with it's quaint German style architecture. Swakopmund is also home to a wide variety of adventure activities.

Day 5. Swakopmund Highlights. Swakopmund, Namibia.

Today is a free day to enjoy some of the many activities on offer or to simply explore the small town and enjoy the cafe culture and galleries.

Day 6. Swakopmund to Sossus On Foot Camp, Khomas Region Highlights. The Tropic of Capricorn.

Leaving the coast and Swakopmund behind, we continue south - crossing the Tropic of Capricorn en-route - to our camp for the night, situated on a farm with a picturesque backdrop of the desert and mountains.

Day 7. Sossus On Foot Camp, Khomas Region to Sesriem Area Highlights. Dune 45, Namib Naukluft National Park, Namibia. Sesriem Canyon, Namibia. Sossusvlei, Namibia.

Entering the National Park this morning as the gates open, we start our day with a trek to the top of Dune 45. Two steps up, one step back! Its a strenuous trek, however one is greatly rewarded by some stunning vistas over the sandy desert.

After a hearty breakfast we continue on a short shuttle ride to Deadvlei.

Leaving the dunes behind, we venture on to explore the stunning rock formations of the Sesriem Canyon

Day 8. Sesriem Area to Fish River Canyon Highlights. Fish River Canyon, Namibia. Tsaris Pass, Namibia.

Through the barren and rocky landscape dotted with iconic quiver trees, we reach the Fish River Canyon. Up to 500m deep and some 160km long, it is a wondrous sight and our crew will guide us along to some of the best viewpoints for the best photo opportunities.

Day 9. Fish River Canyon to Orange River, Namibia Highlights. Orange (Gariep) River, Namibia.

It's only a short journey on from the Fish River Canyon to our camp for the night on the banks of the Orange (Gariep) River. On arrival, we can take an optional canoe safari, or simply relax by the water's edge and enjoy the spectacular views.

Day 10. Orange River to Cederberg Region Highlights. Cape Winelands, South Africa. Cederberg, South Africa.

Crossing the border to South Africa, we travel south through Namaqualand and into the Western Cape Province. Should you be on this tour during spring, we will be lucky enough to see blankets of beautiful wildflowers near the road and as far as the eye can see!

From our picturesque camp, we have the opportunity to sample some locally produced wines whilst overlooking beautiful vineyards.

Day 11. Cederberg Region to Cape Town Highlights. Cape Town, South Africa.

Our last day on the vehicle takes us through the main citrus farming area of South Africa. In the distance we see the iconic Table Mounting which later welcomes us into the vibrant and beautiful city of Cape Town where we end our tour.

Additional Info

This tour starts in Windhoek on day 1. If time allows, we also suggest planning a night or two extra (after your tour) to make the most of this part of Africa. Accommodation is usually available locally on arrival but you can also pre book this with Acacia. There is a variety of activities and excursions in the Cape Town area you can arrange locally or with your Tour Leader.

These are optional activities that are booked during your holiday and paid directly to the provider while on tour. These options offer a variety of experiences and allow you the freedom to decide what activities you would like to do.

We use 2-person dome tents with fly sheets, sewn-in ground sheets, zip-up insect screens and foam mattresses. We mainly use campsites, which usually have reasonable wash and shower facilities, electricity points and sometimes even a small shop, bar or swimming pool.

24-seater, self contained, custom-built safari vehicle with on-board tables, plug sockets, freezer, water tank, library, i-pod jack, safety features and 70-litre individual lockers.

In order to maximise the quality of game driving and to comply with local authority rulings, some of our National Park visits and game viewing is carried out using services provided by local African ground handlers. As well as enhancing our experience using local guides and smaller vehicles it also allows us to contribute at a ‘grassroots’ level to local economies from which local people benefit.

This is a participation tour and your help will be needed in assisting with the various day to day duties, such as shopping, cooking and keeping the vehicle tidy (usually on a rota basis). But don’t worry it’s not all hard work and it’s a great way to meet the local people and get to know your fellow travellers. Your contribution benefits the success of the tour - most people find the greater their involvement, the greater their enjoyment of the whole trip.
