Day 1. Pretoria to Hazyview Highlights. Blyde River Canyon, South Africa.

Starting the day in Pretoria we set off on our adventure tour to Kruger National Park. On our journey we enjoy the mountain scenery of the Mpumalanga province along the Panorama route, where we stop off to marvel at the natural beauty of the Blyde River Canyon. In the late afternoon we arrive at our camp in the small town of Hazyview, adjacent to Kruger National Park.

Day 2. Kruger National Park Highlights. Kruger National Park, South Africa.

This morning we wake early and meet our resident guides and board the 4x4 vehicles before setting off on a day of viewing the amazing wildlife that inhabits the Kruger National Park.

Being one of Africa's largest wildlife reserves (a little larger than Belgium in size), Kruger offers an immense variety of animals, birds and reptiles to see including lion, leopard, cheetah, rhino, elephant, zebra, hippo and more. With more than 500 species of birds, and a range of natural wilderness to explore, there is much to see in this Big 5 safari reserve.

We spend the day out exploring with a break at a local camp over lunch, before returning to our camp in the late afternoon.

Day 3. Kruger National Park

We make our way back into the Kruger National Park this morning for a second game drive to carry on our search for the 'big 5' - elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and rhino. We can choose to head back over the ground covered yesterday or discover a new area of the park today in search of the wildlife we have yet to tick off of our Kruger National Park bucket list. Have you spotted the African wild dogs or heard the iconic cry of the African Fish Eagle yet?

*For travellers not taking the Adventure Pass, today is free to enjoy some other activities in the Hazyview area.

Day 4. Kruger to Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, Swaziland

We continue our adventure tour, travelling along the edge of Kruger National Park and make our way to the Kingdom of Swaziland. Swaziland is landlocked between South Africa and Mozambique, with a fascinating culture and rich heritage. Arriving at Milwane Wildlife Sanctuary (our base for the next two nights) is Swaziland’s oldest protected area located in the stunning Ezulwini Valley, 'Valley of Heavens’.

Day 5. Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary Highlights. Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, Swaziland (Eswatini). Swaziland (Eswatini) Cultural Village, Ezulwini Valley.

Today we make our way through the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary to the Royal Enclosure to learn about the history and culture of the Swazi monarchy, after being taken by a local Swazi guide though a traditional village. We also stop off at the markets en-route to admire the carvings, drawings and interesting trinkets on sale to support the local people.

The afternoon is yours to enjoy some of the amazing activities on offer. Head out on a nature walk, explore on horse back, take a bike out into the grasslands, or alternatively spend the afternoon relaxing and watching the wildlife and birds as they visit the hippo pool.

Day 6. Swaziland to St Lucia, South Africa Highlights. St Lucia River Cruise, South Africa.

We bid farewell to Swaziland and continue our adventure by crossing the border back into South Africa. Our camp is in St Lucia where we settle in and enjoy an afternoon cruise on the St. Lucia estuary - to see the magnificent fish eagle, hippo pods and crocodile found here.

Situated at the southern end of the great Isimangaliso Wetland Park, this region is very rich in marine bird-life.

Day 7. St. Lucia to Durban

Relaxed and revitalized after a morning at leisure exploring this quaint town, it's off to Durban - one of Africa's largest ports - via picturesque pine forests and sugar cane fields.

Our tour ends on arrival at Umhlanga Rocks. We suggest (if time allows) spending a few extra days here exploring this magnificent city and all the optional activities on offer.

Additional Info

This tour departs Pretoria early on day 1; we strongly recommend therefore that you plan to arrive the day before departure to overcome any jet-lag and acclimatise to Africa. We would be happy to book pre-tour accommodation for you – please call or email us (or speak to your agent) with your arrival details and accommodation requirements. However please book early to avoid disappointment and the risk of having to find more expensive (or less convenient) lodgings.

If time allows, we also suggest planning a night or two extra (after your tour) to make the most of Durban and the surrounding area.

These are optional activities that are booked during your holiday and paid directly to the provider while on tour. These options offer a variety of experiences and allow you the freedom to decide what activities you would like to do.

We use 2-person dome tents with fly sheets, sewn-in groundsheets, zip-up insect screens and foam mattresses. We mainly use campsites, which usually have reasonable wash and shower facilities, electricity points and sometimes even a small shop, bar or swimming pool.

24-seater, self-contained, custom-built safari vehicle with on-board tables, plug sockets, freezer, water tank, library, safety features and 70-litre individual lockers, 4x4 safari vehicle.

In order to maximise the quality of game driving and to comply with local authority rulings, some of our National Park visits and game viewing is carried out using services provided by local African ground handlers. As well as enhancing our experience using local guides and smaller vehicles it also allows us to contribute at a ‘grassroots’ level to local economies from which local people benefit.

This is a participation tour and your help will be needed in assisting with the various day to day duties, such as shopping, cooking and keeping the vehicle tidy (usually on a rota basis). But don’t worry it’s not all hard work and it’s a great way to meet the local people and get to know your fellow travellers. Your contribution benefits the success of the tour - most people find the greater their involvement, the greater their enjoyment of the whole trip. Our accommodated tour option travels together with the camping counterpart.
