This accommodated tour visits the top highlights of Zimbabwe and the Chobe National Park in Botswana. It includes visiting a wild dog conservation project; game viewing in a game concession area adjacent to Zimbabwe's famous Hwange National Park; nature drives and walks with the rhinos at Matobo National Park; wandering the Khami Ruins and drifting along the Chobe River while watching the sunset and prolific wildlife.
Day 1. Victoria Falls to Hwange National Park Highlights. Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe. Accommodation. Sable Sands Lodge, Hwange.
On the first day of this tour, we leave Victoria Falls and make our way to Hwange National Park. Covering an area of over 14,000 sq km Hwange is home to and famous for its populations of Elephant.Day 2. Hwange National Park Highlights. Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe.
Hwange contains over 100 mammals and is home of the 'big 5'(leopard, lion, elephant, rhino and buffalo). The park is also known for its giraffe, cheetah, gemsbok, hyena and for the Wild (Painted) Dogs. Today we use open safari vehicle in the park to enhance our game viewing experience for a morning and afternoon drive.Day 3. Hwange National Park to Bulawayo Highlights. Khami Ruins, Zimbabwe.
We head south out of Hwange to Zimbabwe's second city, Bulawayo. Just outside of the city we visit the Khami Ruins, the capital of the Kalanga Kingdom of Butwa of the Torwa dynasty. It is now a national monument and became a UNESCO World Heritage site.Day 4. Bulawayo to Matobo National Park Highlights. Matobo National Park, Zimbabwe.
Today we enter Matobo National Park which forms the core of the Matobo or Matopos Hills. These hills were formed over 2 billion years ago with granite being forced to the surface, this has eroded to produce smooth circular boulders. Mzilikazi, founder of the Ndebele nation, gave the area its name, meaning 'Bald Heads'.Day 5. Bulawayo, Zimbabwe to Elephant Sands, Nata, Botswana Highlights. Elephant Sands, Nata, Botswana. Accommodation. Elephant Sands, Nata.
Leaving Bulawayo we make our way across the border into Botswana and to the Elephant Sands Lodge. We normally arrive sometime in the early/mid-afternoon and have the rest of the day at leisure.Day 6. Elephant Sands, Nata to Kasane Highlights. Chobe Fish Eagle Cruise, Botswana. Chobe National Park, Botswana. Accommodation. Thebe River Lodge.
Today we make our way to the town Kasane in northern Botswana. This is where we get to Chobe National Park and take a 'Fish Eagle' cruise on the Chobe river – a wonderful opportunity to view hippo and perhaps elephant or buffalo coming to the river to bathe while we float by in the late afternoon sunshine.Day 7. Kasane to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe Highlights. Chobe National Park Game Drive, Botswana. Chobe National Park, Botswana.
On our final day, we head back into the Chobe National Park in search of all the wildlife we may have missed the day before on an open vehicle game drive. After our time in the park we cross the border back into Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls.The Shearwater Explorers Village is located 400m from the thundering Victoria Falls and 100m from the epicenter of the Vic Falls town. Comprising of 42 private rooms, the village represents budget accommodation at its finest. Facilities include: Bar, Swimming pool and a spa for those relaxation moments.
