After marvelling its beauty, we make our way to Hazyview, the gateway to the southern part of the Kruger National Park. This evening we prep our day bags for our first day’s game drive and enjoy our first night under the African starry skies.

Day 2. Kruger National Park Highlights. Kruger National Park, South Africa. Accommodation. Hotel Numbi.

Rising early, we meet our local guides and board our open 4x4 safari vehicles for our first glimpse of the African wild animals on safari. Home to over 505 species of birds, 148 species of mammals including the ‘Big 5’ - leopard, lion, elephant, rhino and buffalo, we eagerly search for these on a morning and afternoon safari, pausing for a break in the midday heat.

Day 3. Kruger National Park Accommodation. Hotel Numbi.

Today we re-enter the park to explore the vast landscapes and spectacular wildlife encounters that you may have missed the day before including the elusive leopard and the interesting ‘Small 5’- The elephant shrew, the antlion, the red-billed buffalo weaver, the leopard tortoise and the rhino beetle. By far the largest game reserve in South Africa, at 19,485 sq. km this park is larger than Israel and stretches for 352 kilometres (20 000 square kilometres) from north to south along the Mozambique border. We return to our accommodation in Hazyview to overnight.

Day 4. Hazyview to Mlilwane, Swaziland Highlights. Swaziland. Accommodation. Mlilwane.

It’s time to explore Swaziland! We travel south crossing the Crocodile Bridge into Swaziland, or officially the Kingdom of Eswantini. We traverse the mountainous roads to Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, Swaziland’s pioneer conservation area situated in the “Valley of Heaven”, the Ezulwini Valley, in between Mbabane and Manzini. It’s here we spend two nights in traditional beehive huts (thatched dwellings) for a true Swazi experience.

Day 5. Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary Highlights. Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, Swaziland. Swaziland Cultural Village, Ezulwini Valley. Accommodation. Mlilwane.

This morning we visit the Umphakatsi Cultural village, a small drive from the sanctuary, to learn about the Swazi culture and customs. See the daily workings of a traditional village and the day-to-day chores and join in some traditional singing and dancing.

The rest of the day is at leisure to relax by the swimming pool or join in on an optional activity to view the variety of antelope, zebra, hippo and the exotic species such as Honey Badger, Dwarf Mongoose, Aardwolf, Striped Polecat that inhabit the reserve.
