1. It’s on everybody’s wish list and with millions of wildebeest making their yearly jaunt across the Mara River and the plains of Kenya’s best loved game reserve – Masai Mara, we can’t think of anywhere else we’d rather head this summer. Travel from now to October, and chances are you’ll catch sight of the annual migration – now declared as the 7th New Wonder of the World!
2. Lake Nakuru’s pink fringe of flamingoes is a breathtaking sight. Described by ornothologists as the greatest bird spectacle in the world, you can expect to see around two million of these at various times of year, but for your best chance of spotting these massive flocks you should also include a visit to Lake Bogoria
3. Who would want to miss the chance to get up and close and personal with a giraffe ? Try the Nairobi National Park and you won’t leave disappointed.
4. Kenya is undoubtedly one of the most filmed safari spots on the planet. The Big Cat Diary gave us an even greater insight into wildlife antics in the Mara and the lesser known Samburu reserve was made famous in The Secret Life of the Elephants and Born Free.
5. In rural Kenya culture abounds and the red robed Maasai Tribe are perhaps one of the most recognised in East Africa. You can interact with the tribe on a village visit and partake in some of their rituals including jumping with the Maasai warriors.

6. For breathtaking sunsets Kenya is hard to beat – go in green season as those towering storm clouds make for the most unforgettable sunsets!
7. Up your chances of seeing not only the Big Five, but the Big Nine in the Masai Mara! The so-called “Big Five” are Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard, Lion and Rhinoceros and the “Big Nine” extends to include the Cheetah, Zebra, Giraffe and Hippo.
8. Stray off the beaten track and head for Lake Baringo. Surrounded by volcanic ranges the Lake is home to the Njemps tribe, and while a birders paradise it’s also an ideal place to spot hippo and crocodile.
9. Samburu lays claim to it’s own Big Five! The Grevy’s zebra, long-necked gerenuk, reticulated giraffe, besia oryx and Somali ostrich are endemic to the national park; the elusive leopard, large numbers of elephant and endangered wild dog also commonly sighted.
10. Kenya makes for unbeatable safari memories and due to the large number of wildlife species (over 500) and array of birdlife in the Mara, it’s one of the best photography haunts in Africa. See this magnificent game reserve on film here...
