Day 1. Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park Highlights. Great Rift Valley. Lake Nakuru, Kenya.

Leaving Nairobi early this morning we cross the vast Great Rift Valley, a cleft in the earth's surface stretching from the red sea to the Zambezi. Stopping en route we take in the majestic views before descending into the valley and on to the Lake Nakuru National Park.

We kick off our game viewing this afternoon in an open 4x4 game drive vehicle with a local guide and seek out the magnificent wildlife in the park and around the shallow soda lake that forms Lake Nakuru.

Day 2. Lake Nakuru National Park to Eldoret Highlights. Equator.

Continuing our overland journey, we cross into the northern hemisphere while climbing in altitude to Kenya's 5th largest town, the pleasant Eldoret. Our unique camp is just outside of the town in its idyllic location in the hills.

Day 3. Eldoret to Kampala, Uganda Highlights. Kampala, Uganda.

Today we cross into Uganda, often referred to the Pearl of Africa owing to the country's immense beauty. After completing the entry formalities our journey takes us around the northern shores of Lake Victoria and on into the hustle and bustle of Uganda's capital city, Kampala.

Day 4. Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Leaving Kampala at first light we journey further west, crossing the equator again back into the southern hemisphere. Encountering some of the iconic Ugandan Longhorn cattle along the way, we meander through the lush rolling hills to our camp near Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 5. Queen Elizabeth National Park, Chimpanzee Trek Highlights. Chimpanzee Trek, Kyamburu Gorge, Uganda. Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda.

Entering Queen Elizabeth National Park, we drive through to the Kyambura Gorge for our chimpanzee trek. On our drive there we may be lucky enough to see some of the many animals that inhabit this beautiful area.

The chimpanzees are generally found playing in the tree top canopy, but we can be fortunate enough to find them coming down to the tracks - a truly awe inspiring experience.

Day 6. Queen Elizabeth National Park to Lake Bunyonyi Highlights. Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda.

Today we get back into our overland truck and travel through the mountainous south western corner of Uganda to the lush and stunning 'Place of Many Little Birds,' Lake Bunyonyi. The lake is a beautifully tranquil spot where you can enjoy many activities from our camp.

Day 7-8. Lake Bunyonyi, Gorilla Trek Highlights. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda. Mountain gorillas.

We have two days at Lake Bunyonyi in order to enable all overlanders an opportunity to trek to the mountain gorillas. The trek is strenuous, but the reward of seeing the majestic mountain gorillas more than makes up for the effort. It may take a few hours trekking through the mountainous jungle to find them eating and playing.

While not trekking there are many activities available at the camp on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi.

Day 9. Lake Bunyonyi to Kampala Highlights. Kampala, Uganda.

With a long drive ahead of us, we get an early start as we make our way back through to Kampala. We cross the equator for a second time with another chance for photo opportunities.

Day 10. Kampala to Jinja

Today we travel the short distance from Kampala down to the shores of Lake Victoria and the source of the Nile.

Day 11-12. Jinja Highlights. Jinja, Uganda.

We have two fun-filled adventure days in Jinja and our team at the camp will be able to assist in organising a wide variety of activities. Perhaps enjoy an extreme day white water rafting on the Nile or possibly explore the area on foot, bike or a quadbike. We also have the opportunity to visit a local community school project.

Day 13. Jinja to Eldoret, Kenya

Crossing back across into Kenya again, our overland journeys takes us back to Eldoret.

Day 14. Eldoret to Nairobi Highlights. Great Rift Valley.

Crossing the equator for a final time, our journey takes us back across the Great Rift Valley again and back to Nairobi where our safari adventure must come to an end.

Additional Info

PRE TOUR ACCOMMODATION:
This tour departs Nairobi early on day 1; we strongly recommend therefore that you plan to arrive at least the day before departure to overcome any jet-lag and to acclimatise to Africa. We would be happy to book pre-tour accommodation for you – please call or email us (or speak to your agent) with your arrival details and accommodation requirements. However please book early to avoid disappointment and the risk of having to find more expensive (or less convenient) lodgings.

If time allows, we also suggest planning a night or two extra (after your tour) to make the most of this part of Africa. Your Tour Leader can help with post tour accommodation if required and there are a variety of activities and excursions in the Nairobi area that you can arrange locally. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can pre- book your accommodation at the time of booking your tour.

ACTIVITIES & EXCURSIONS:
These are optional activities that are booked during your holiday and paid directly to the provider while on tour. These options offer a variety of experiences and allow you the freedom to decide what activities you would like to do.

GORILLA & CHIMPANZEE TREK:
Depending on the availability of the chimpanzee and gorilla permits the tour itinerary may vary in day to day running order which is based on the brochure itinerary. From time to time we may have to trek on different days. If at any chance our Gorilla trek should be in another neighbouring country, e.g. Rwanda (instead of Uganda) this may entail extra visa fees although we shall endeavour to advise you before departure of any significant changes to the tour itinerary. Please take the above itinerary as a guideline only. This applies to day 7 – 9 of this tour.

ACCOMMODATION:
We use 2-person dome tents with fly sheets, sewn-in groundsheets, zip-up insect screens and foam mattresses. We mainly use campsites, which usually have reasonable wash and shower facilities, electricity points and sometimes even a small shop, bar or swimming pool.

TRANSPORT:
24-seater, self-contained, custom-built safari truck with on-board tables, plug sockets, freezer, water tank, library, i-pod jack, safety features and 70-litre individual lockers, 4x4 safari vehicle.

GAME PARK VISITS:
In order to maximise the quality of game driving and to comply with local authority rulings, some of our National Park visits and game viewing is carried out using services provided by local African ground handlers. As well as enhancing our experience using local guides and smaller vehicles it also allows us to contribute at a ‘grassroots’ level to local economies from which local people benefit.

TOUR STYLE:
This is a participation tour and your help will be needed in assisting with the various day to day duties, such as shopping, cooking and keeping the truck tidy (usually on a rota basis). But don’t worry it’s not all hard work and it’s a great way to meet the local people and get to know your fellow travellers. Your contribution benefits the success of the tour - most people find the greater their involvement, the greater their enjoyment of the whole trip.
