On the road when you have amazing groups of passengers, our organised group nights such as meals out in town and fancy dress nights in Malawi are all part and parcel of overland travel; when you are leading groups over the holiday season, in particular Christmas and New Year, it gives you an extra ‘excuse’ to get the whole group together.
This year our trip is due to end just before Christmas, and as the holiday season was so important to my group we decided that our Christmas party would be in Botswana and our New Years bash would be in Livingstone, Zambia. Well, as a tour leader I couldn’t have asked for a better response from the group.

Each of us bought a secret Santa present, contributed to decorating the truck, and I supplied the Christmas tree….yes folks, a fully decorated tree with tinsel, baubles and candy canes courtesy of Jess one of our Cape Town – Nairobi passengers. The night was a huge success and really demonstrated how tight nit the group was….a great lead up to our African New Year!
New year took place on the mighty Zambezi in the form of a Sunset Cruise. It is advertised as a Sunset Cruise, on which you can enjoy some game viewing, a superb sunset and great food – along with an open bar! Again, the group partied together but also celebrated the end of our 19 day trip together and the start of our next adventure through East Africa!
