Bungee jump from Victoria Falls, Zambia
Victoria Falls and its spectacular rainbows provide an incredible backdrop for what is arguably one of the best bungee jumps in the world.
Not only is this a big jump from one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World and a World Heritage Site, but it drops down into the Batoka Gorge, the natural border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Every year 50,000 jumpers take the 111 metre plunge from the Victoria Falls Bridge, which is technically a ‘no man’s land’.
Known locally as ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ or ‘the smoke that thunders’ Victoria Falls is a must for any bucket list and what better way to see the plummeting 550,000 cubic metres of water than with a bungee jump? The roar in your ears, race in your heart and rush of adrenaline is not something you’ll be able shake any time soon.
Bask on a beach in Zanzibar
Coconut trees and banana palms grow along gloriously white sands met by the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. A beach in Zanzibar is the very thing bucket list dreams are made of. This island archipelago is nothing short of a secret paradise.
Once the centre of the spice and slave trade, Zanzibar is a fusion of African, Arab, European and Indian influences. Boasting 25 beautiful beaches, the coastline is decorated with picturesque fishing villages. Choose from basking on a nearby beach with locals whose welcome is as warm as the sun or find remote beach side bliss only interrupted by breaking waves.
Explore further with a day trip to nearby Bawe or Prison Islands, both excellent for snorkelling. If on the west coast of Zanzibar, visit Mangapwani beach. The white sands continue to wrap around the east coast beaches of Matemwe, Pwani Mchangani, Kiwengwa, Uroa, Bwejuu and Jambiani.

Float through the waterways of the Okavango Delta in Botswana
Meandering through the waterways of the Okavango Delta in Botswana like locals have for hundreds of years – in a ‘makoro’. Resembling a dug-out canoe, this is the only way to truly experience the largest inland delta in the world and its labyrinth of rivers and channels, lakes and wetlands.
Traditionally carved from the native 100-year-old sausage tree, mekoro are propelled by local ‘polers’ who punt the little boats along with a ‘ngashi’ (a long pole made from a mogonono tree).
Hear the enchanting chorus of birds and insects as you come eye-to-eye with elephants, buffalo and crocodiles gathered along the water’s edge. This adventure the under the Botswana sun is not to be left off any African bucket list.
Meet gorillas in the mountain jungles of Uganda
More than just another adventure to tick off the bucket list, the experience of coming face-to-face with majestic mountain gorillas will leave you feeling humbled and privileged.
Half the world’s population of gorillas is found in the misty jungles and bamboo thickets of the Virunga volcanic Mountains in Uganda. Guided treks that can last anywhere from three to eight hours are taken through the tough terrain of mud, stinging nettles and thick vegetation. However the incredible experience of coming face-to-face with mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is a reward unrivalled.
