Lake Nakuru National Park lies in the Nakuru district of the Rift Valley Province.  It is one of Kenya’s two Premium Parks.  The ecosystem is supported by a shallow strongly alkaline lake set in a picturesque landscape. The Lake catchment is bounded by Mengai Crater which lies in the North, the Bahati hills to the North East, the lion Hill ranges to the East, Eburu Crater to the South and the Mau escarpment to the West. Three rivers, the Njoro, Enderit and the Makaliqa drain into the enriched lake. Lake Nakuru was gazetted originally as a bird sanctuary in 1960 and was upgraded to National Park status in 1968.It was also the first National Rhino sanctuary hosting one of the world’s highest concentrations of Black Rhino (60 black and 40 white).

This eco enriched park is not only famous for the rhino’s – it has wide ecological diversity with up to 1.4 million flamingos (both Greater and Lesser) plus 450 other species of birds. The rest of the parks  fauna includes hippo, buffalo, warthog, striped hyena, waterbuck, impala, Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelle, lion, wild cat, striped hyena, bat eared fax, jackal, colobus monkey, vervet monkey’s,  baboons and the restocked and endangered Rothschild giraffe.
