Described as the happiest 5 km on the planet, and I am not going to lie – it is so true! WOW… what a day!
The mother of all paint races finally hit the city of Cape Town and we were in. Situated on the water’s edge on the promenade in Sea Point, we knew we were in for a real treat and the weather played along giving us a stunning sunny day.

My day started by meeting friends near the starting line. We got our white colour run t-shirts & funky sweat headbands on and our colour paint sachets in hand, ready for the race. Our team was called the Retro Soles, so brightly coloured or white shorts with stripy socks was the chosen theme.

We made our way to the starting line ready for the race. As we lined up to take our turns to cross the line…with the countdown 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, the kaleidoscope of colour hit the skies and all of us at the same time.

With the music pumping & everyone dancing to the beats, the energy of thousands and thousands of Capetonians and visitors from all over the world united as one was truly a spectacular sight – I understand why it is called the ‘Happiest 5 km on the planet’!

Passing through the ‘colour wash’ stations created an interesting canvas of colour – every km milestone bringing a different colour – Red, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple.

The fun continued at the finishing line with a gigantic Colour Festival. With hot tunes playing and rainbows of colour filling the clear blues skies we were bestowed with a sense of perfect happiness and everlasting memories of this amazing day!

The Colour Run, Cape Town donated a part of the proceeds of this race to the Univeristy of Cape Town’s SHAWCO education and health initiatives. Giving back to the community always makes these amazing festivals so much more fun!
So looking forward to the next run! Will you be there in 2014?
