I am not going to lie, when I flew into South Africa for the first time many years ago, I was mesmerised with the beauty of the area especially Table Mountain. It has been a dream of mine to take the cable car up and down, but a little fear was on my side (I suffer vertigo), so after many years of attempting this, I finally made it!
I was given a surprise from a friend with a picnic basket of delicious goodies and off we went (my partner and me) to the gates of the cable car. I was a little apprehensive at first, but it all seemed to dissolve when we were in the cable car itself. The take-off was smooth moving and before I knew it, we had reached half way. The views were absolutely stunning as the cable car rotated a 360 view for everyone to see. I was not scared at all!
Arriving at the top, we enjoyed a browse through the curio shops and a coffee at the restaurant before meandering the designated paths, happily snapping pictures of every view possible.
It was time to open our picnic basket of delicious food, so we found the best spot for our picnic and laid it out. It was a quiet spot, less populated with views to die for. I mean, simply perfect!
Putting our feet up, we sipped champagne and socking in the immense beauty and smells of the prolific native plants and flowers around us, enjoying every breath we took.
In my personal experience, a picnic on Table Mountain is a delightful way to enjoy this day adventure in the mother city. Take a rug, a cool box and fill it with your goodies of choice. Don’t forget to take sunblock and a jackets as it can get cold up there.
