Jeremy Taylor may be from upstate New York, but he is dedicating his 40th birthday to the last male White Rhino on earth. Coincidentally, Sudan is also 40 years old, the rhino living under 24-hour armed guard in Kenya’s Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya.
After reading about the plight of Sudan, Taylor decided to take action and use his upcoming birthday to raise awareness and charity monies to boost rhino conservation efforts.
Taylor writes on his fundraising page. “These magnificent creatures are facing extinction within my lifetime if something is not done. I don’t want to think of a world without rhinos.”
The World Wildlife Fund estimate that there were over 2,000 Northern white rhinos in 1960, but the poaching crisis has seen their numbers drop to just five, Sudan joined by four females.
