Day 1. Nairobi, Kenya - Lake Nakuru National Park Highlights. Lake Nakuru, Kenya.

Departing from Kenya's bustling capital, Nairobi, our journey takes us down across the Great Rift Valley and onward to one of the most famed lakes, Lake Nakuru.

We enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park exploring the area around the fringe of the lake hoping to spot some of the wildlife native to this area - giraffe, zebra, hippo, olive baboon, vervet and colobus monkeys, waterbuck and hyena.
Other big safari wildlife to be on the lookout for includes lion, cheetah, leopard and buffalo.

Day 2. Lake Nakuru - Eldoret Highlights. Equator.

From Lake Nakuru we journey northwestward gaining altitude en-route to the town of Eldoret situated in the highlands close to the border with Uganda. Along the way we cross the equator for the first time on the tour.

Our comfortable accommodation is just outside of town on hilly tribal land.

Day 3. Eldoret - Kampala, Uganda Highlights. Kampala, Uganda.

From Kenya we move on to Uganda this morning. Once border formalities are completed, we are welcomed into what Winston Churchill referred to as 'The Pearl of Africa'. Our journey takes us onward to the city of Kampala and our accommodation in the hills for the night.

Day 4. Kampala - Chimpanzee Trekking Area

From Kampala, we travel west crossing the Equator again, through fertile green terraced hillsides, lush banana plantations, steep mountains, and tangled forests. From the Acacia vehicle we should see herds of Ankole cattle with their incredible long curving horns roaming the roads and paddocks. Arriving at our accommodation you will have the opportunity to relax and unwind, take a walk in the surrounding areas, and mingle with the local community.

Day 5. Kalinzu Forest or Kyambura Gorge Highlights. Chimpanzee Trek, Kalinzu Forest, Uganda.

This morning, we trek to see the chimpanzees.

The chimps are normally found in the tree canopies, so our trek through the forest is normally spent looking up to find them, however they do regularly come down to the forest floor.

Day 6. Chimpanzee Trekking Area - Lake Bunyonyi Highlights. Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda.

We leave this morning and continue on towards the South West corner of Uganda. The 27km long Lake Bunyonyi area will be home for the next few days, while we venture into the nearby jungles in search of the mountain gorilla.

Day 7-8. Lake Bunyonyi, Gorilla Trek Highlights. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda. Mountain gorillas.

We will be up early to head to the park gate and then onwards with our guides and trackers in search of the mountain gorillas. Our guides will know where the families have been the previous night but the trek can still be long and arduous through thick jungle, however the effort is well worth it when we are rewarded with an audience with these mighty animals.

Permits to visit the mountain gorillas are strictly controlled and limited and as such, we generally require a couple of days for the whole group to each complete their trek.

While not trekking, Lake Bunyonyi is a beautiful tranquil spot to relax or partake in the many optional activities at an around the camp area.

Day 9. Lake Bunyonyi to Kampala

Once we have all trekked, we are up early and back onto the Acacia vehicle for the journey back through to Kampala.

Again, we cross the equator today before arriving late this afternoon in the hilly city of Kampala close to the shores of Lake Victoria.

Day 10. Kampala to Jinja

Today it is only a short distance from the city to Jinja and the shores of Lake Victoria, located on the banks of the famed Nile River.

Jinja is home to many different optional activities and it is possible to either raft on the white waters of the Nile, or to visit a local charity-run school and help out to really make a difference.

Day 11-12. Jinja Highlights. Jinja, Uganda.

We have a two free days here to relax and enjoy as much or as little as possible. Maybe it's time to just rest the weary feet after trekking to the mountain gorillas? Or possibly take part in an activity or three?

Day 13. Jinja to Eldoret, Kenya

Crossing back into Kenya today, we return to our camp outside the town of Eldoret for our last night on tour.

Day 14. Eldoret to Nairobi

From Eldoret we cross the Equator one final time and then it's onward through the Rift Valley and into the capital city, Nairobi - where our adventure comes to an end.
