Day 1. Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park Highlights. Equator. Accommodation. Simba Camp, Uganda.

Departing Kampala early we drive towards the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Through the misty countryside of Uganda with picturesque lush rolling hills and the local farmlands scattered with Ugandan Ankole cattle. Along the way we'll stop off at the Equator point before heading on to our camp.

With an abundance of birdlife, you'll no doubt get to see a number of the feathery inhabitants as we travel into the rural areas amidst the farmlands and waterways along the way.

Day 2. Queen Elizabeth National Park, Chimpanzee Trek Highlights. Chimpanzee Trek, Kyambura Gorge, Uganda. Accommodation. Simba Camp, Uganda.

This morning we get our first taste of the African wilds as we head into the Kyambura Gorge in the canopied forests of the Queen Elizabeth National Park. With some luck we may some some wildlife as we travel to our trekking point.

We head out in search for the ever playful and fascinating chimps that take sanctuary in this abundant reserve. As we walk through the forest it's important to keep your eyes looking up into the forest canopy as Chimpanzee spend most of their time within the branches of the trees.

Day 3. Queen Elizabeth National Park to Lake Bunyonyi Accommodation. Lake Bunyonyi Camp.

We travel south-west into the mountains to find ourselves at the stunning hidden gem that is Lake Bunyonyi. Surrounded by green hills, local farms and scenic crater-lakes, giving it the nickname “Switzerland of Africa”. Here we will spend the afternoon at leisure, taking in the tranquil environment or partaking in optional activities on offer.

Day 4. Lake Bunyonyi, Gorilla Trek Highlights. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda. Mountain gorillas. Accommodation. Lake Bunyonyi Camp.

Starting early we head to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to start on our trek to seek out the endangered mountain gorilla. The local rangers assist us in making our way through the thick forest as we head further into the natural habitat of the gorilla to see them as they roam. Once a family group is spotted, we spend an hour observing them as they eat, rest or play enjoying the opportunity to see them interact with one another and the surrounding forest.

The gorilla trek may happen on day 5 depending on the permit trekking dates.

Day 5. Lake Bunyonyi, Gorilla Trek Highlights. Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda. Accommodation. Lake Bunyonyi Camp.

Explore the scenic Lake Bunyonyi area further by cooling off in the deep crater lake or visiting a local orphanage in the nearby village. This day is spent at leisure, with many activities and natural surroundings to keep one busy.

Day 6. Lake Bunyonyi to Kampala Highlights. Equator. Kampala, Uganda. Accommodation. Red Chilli Hideaway, Kampala.

Additional Info

PRE TOUR ACCOMMODATION:
This tour departs Kampala early on day 1; we strongly recommend therefore that you plan to arrive at least the day before departure to overcome any jet-lag and to acclimatise to Africa. We would be happy to book pre-tour accommodation for you – please call or email us (or speak to your agent) with your arrival details and accommodation requirements. However please book early to avoid disappointment and the risk of having to find more expensive (or less convenient) lodgings.

If time allows, we also suggest planning a night or two extra (after your tour) to make the most of this part of Africa. Accommodation is usually available locally on arrival but you can also pre-book this with Acacia. There is a variety of activities and excursions in the Kampala area you can arrange locally or with your Tour Leader.

ACTIVITIES & EXCURSIONS:
These are optional activities that are booked during your holiday and paid directly to the provider while on tour. These options offer a variety of experiences and allow you the freedom to decide what activities you would like to do.

GORILLA & CHIMPANZEE TREK:
Depending on the availability of the chimpanzee and gorilla permits the tour itinerary may vary in day to day running order which is based on the brochure itinerary. From time to time we may have to trek on different days. If at any chance our Gorilla trek should be in another neighbouring country, eg Rwanda (instead of Uganda) this may entail extra visa fees although we shall endeavour to advise you before departure of any significant changes to the tour itinerary. Please take the above itinerary as a guide line only. This applies to day 3 – 5 of this tour.

ACCOMMODATION:
Twin share accommodation with facilities (8 nights). Some may be with bar or swimming pool.

TRANSPORT:
24-seater, self contained, custom-built safari truck with onboard tables, plug sockets, freezer, water tank, library, safety features and 70-litre individual lockers.

GAME PARK VISITS:
In order to maximise the quality of game driving and to comply with local authority rulings, some of our National Park visits and game viewing is carried out using services provided by local African ground handlers. As well as enhancing our experience using local guides and smaller vehicles it also allows us to contribute at a ‘grassroots’ level to local economies from which local people benefit.

TOUR STYLE:
This is a participation tour and your help will be needed in assisting with the various day to day duties, such as shopping, cooking and keeping the truck tidy (usually on a rota basis). But don’t worry it’s not all hard work and it’s a great way to meet the local people and get to know your fellow travellers. Your contribution benefits the success of the tour - most people find the greater their involvement, the greater their enjoyment of the whole trip. Our accommodated tour option travels together with the camping counterpart.
